Google is swiftly driving its in-house operation on Stadia titles. The internet behemoth has purchased Typhoon Studios, an indie generated by industry veterans (comprising from Far Cry 4 and Batman: Arkham City) that is close to launching its first title, Journey to the Savage Planet. The group will join in Montreal the current Stadia Games and Entertainment Studio, but do not be concerned. Journey is still in progress to get to various platforms in January 2020.
The decision is not shocking. While we discovered Stadia’s service to be playable if prone to technical errors, a number of people have complained about a lack of optimized titles for the streaming platform. There is not much incentive to purchase the Stadia edition of a game if you would be satisfied playing the same game on a PC or console, particularly if you are a competitive kind who thrives on a bunch of friends and low latency. The inclusion of Typhoon’s group can result in more games that act as showcases for Stadia’s benefit.
There is also the matter of driving output of Stadia. Jade Raymond clarified to VentureBeat that Stadia needs “various projects” in Montreal in development, and that indicates having sufficient talent to manage concurrent work on all those titles. We would hope for more of these acquirements in the coming period, even if they are likely to be relative strangers.
On a related note, earlier in the run-up to the Stadia roll out, Google did a Reddit AMA displaying how casting of game will operate for the streaming platform. Beri Lee (Publisher lead) and Andrey Doronichev (Stadia Director of Product) also disclosed all the stuff that will be missing during the roll out, and unluckily, it is a huge list. That comprises support for current Chromecast Ultra machines, game-sharing features like Crowd Play, family sharing, and more.
